Here We Go (Again)

Okay. Here we go.

M, 5'11 227. Goal Weight: 180.

I turn 40 in May. Don't expect to hit my goal weight by then, but would love to be under 200.

About 18 months ago I'd gotten up to 237 - my heaviest ever - had a young kid and was sleeping bad and eating garbage. Used the Always Hungry diet, stuck to it rigourously for a few months, and then loosely, and lost about 15 lbs over six or seven months. Started to gain some back. A friend had a lot of success with the Slow Carb so I tried that, but couldn't stick with it - the super-restrictiveness + wild cheat days cause me to binge too much as soon as I slipped off it. Tried it again in the fall, had a good month to six weeks, and then have had a bad couple weeks.

I've slowly put on weight in a two steps more, one step less kind of way for the past 15 years, and need to get of the hamster wheel. I'm reasonably active, exercise 2-3 times a week. But still feel tired a lot.

Need to try something different. Going back to the Always Hungry plan, which is basically the same as a lot of high-fat low carb diets, and once you get past the 2 week intro is sustainable for a lifestyle in the way some other ones are not. The parts of it that worked for me was the focus on eating enough fat and protein at each meal that you're not hungry for more than a small snack for 4-5 hours. Having a big breakfast is key.

But what will be different you ask? Why if I have tried and failed (well not totally failed, I am still 10lbs lighter than i was 18 months ago) so many times before, will this one be the time that works?

The difference will be you all. You all will hold me accountable. And in writing about it daily, I will hold myself accountable.

I start Monday (I'm have a crazy trip planned over the weekend, won't be setting myself up for success if I try to start tomorrow).

No excuses. Let's do it.
