NSV: I rode a mechanical bull this week.

I hit my highest weight this year. I started getting serious and eating better with no real progress. I saw an email at work that we have free yogalates classes starting up, so I joined in. Things felt better, so I told my husband I wanted to start a weekly hiking trip anywhere around town. After the first month, things finally made sense with my body!!

Years and years of feeling bleh, and now I dropped my heart rate, I can walk/hike faster and longer, I feel powerful and strong. I can breath easier and I just feel GOOD.

Okay, so story time: this week my family and I went to a Christmas wonderland place with a hay ride through some cool light displays, sledding, and other cool stuff including a mechanical bull.

My 9 year old niece decided to ride, so I said sure. I stood with her in line, listened to her fears, encouraged her, etc. She’s struggled with fear of failure, completing tasks, and other stuff, but going to a therapist has helped her get past a lot of it. 6 months ago she tried to ride a mechanical bull but broke down crying and didn’t get to ride. This week, she had fire in her eyes and did it. I was so proud of her.... till she said “your turn”.

Now, I’m improving, but I’m a BIG girl still. No one over a size 10 has been on this thing the whole time we were in line. Mostly just kids.

The guy running the thing looked me dead in the eye and said “you got this” and well, okay. I can’t expect my niece to do it and then wimp out myself. So here we go.

I got a boost from the kindly cowboy that was running it. He didn’t even whimper.

I got bucked around and tossed about, but I stayed the hell on for 67 seconds!! Then fell off.

It wasn’t graceful, it wasn’t pretty, but I did it.

My legs were like rubber and my back was sore the next day. Turns out it takes muscle to ride that thing!! But I’m so so glad I did it. I can finally trust my body again to do the crazy crap I want to do. Oh, and my niece, husband, my mom, and a random old lady waiting in line with her grandkid said she was proud of me and that I was brave 😊

Keep at it folks. Keep working so you do wacky stuff when you don’t expect to. 💕
