My sister asked me to help her lose weight. She is diagnosed with binge eating disorder and is seeing a therapist. What are my do’s and don’ts here?

So my sister struggles with binge eating disorder (BED) amongst others things. She has been seeing a therapist and psychiatrist regularly for a few months now. She’s doing a lot better. She’s on Latuda 30mg. They are beginning to tackle her BED now.

She has around 100lbs to lose to get her into a normal BMI range. She asked for my help because I recently lost 50lbs from CICO. I’m so happy she asked for my help but I don’t know what to do here. Her therapist actually suggested that she ask me for help...but I’m not sure if counting calories is the right thing to do. I feel like she might become overwhelmed and frustrated with the meticulous counting.

Does she need to overcome her BED before attempting to lose weight? Can you do both at the same time? What are things I should do? What are things I should NOT do? Let me know if you need more information.

I would appreciate any insight, especially if you have BED. What is something a close family member could do to help?
