How to make sustainable changes?

I am committed to losing weight. I have MyFitnessPal and I try to track but yesterday is a perfect example of where I fall off: I had a kale smoothie for breakfast with Greek yogurt & frozen fruit, I had a plain salad with croutons & dressing and a small bag of microwave popcorn for lunch. A couple handfuls of cereal in the afternoon. I was crushing my calorie goal with room for dinner. But then I got home I was so hungry I had a bacon egg & cheese on a bagel AND leftover pasta. So I guess I have 2 questions: how to keep it in check all day, everyday? And, what small, sustainable changes can I make to my diet to make progress? I don’t drink soda, I drink tons of water everyday (I pee every 45 mins like clockwork), I drink black coffee. Any suggestions for small changes to implement would be really helpful!
