Where I live, it’s not gonna be above 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) for a while. Since I just started running recently, I don’t have much experience running in the cold. I tried recently, and it felt like I nearly froze the inside of my lungs and throat. I don’t have a gym membership or a job to get one, so treadmills are out of the question. How do you all manage running outdoors in the winter without slipping on ice, freezing to death, or dying? Just wondering.
My other question is: how do you get over the mental barrier of running outdoors? I always feel like everyone is watching and judging me from out of their house windows. I’m not that great of a runner, so I feel like they notice when I keep running, walking, then running again. It really sucks.
Also, what is the best way to stay safe while running outdoors?— because with those stories of joggers being kidnapped or killed, I feel super paranoid while I’m running. It keeps me from focusing on my pacing or enjoying my music (because I always feel like I have to listen for someone trying to kill me from behind). There’s a house that’s just on the outside of my neighborhood, and a HUGE black dog came always comes sprinting at me, barking and growling. Luckily, they have an electric fence installed, but it’s still unsettling every time I jog past and I get snarled at. Sometimes, there’re other people jogging on the sidewalk, and it always scares the crap out of me when they follow me for some time (of course they’re not following ME, they’re just using the same path). I know it’s just me being paranoid, but anything can happen. Just knowing that i have a plan if something goes wrong would ease my mind. If anyone has any advice, I’d appreciate it a lot!
