I just want to rant for a second.
I’d always wondered why as an adult I had such a harder time than my peers establishing healthy eating habits.
I couldn’t wrap my mind around meal planning, I couldn’t seem to do a normal grocery shopping and put a balanced meal on the table, what was coming naturally to all my friends after that freshman year “I just want pizza and beer” phase was a constant uphill battle for me.
Then I realized when I went home to visit my friends who were having such an easy time with eating, that their parents cooked every meal at home.
My dad was always working, my mom always ordered takeout or made microwave food. I had never had a balanced meal role modeled for me. We never sat down and ate a normal meal at a normal time. So as an adult I kept grazing in front of the fridge and eating a box of macaroni and cheese every night.
I had to relearn so much and I’m still undoing a lot of bad habits but I’m so frustrated my mother could never set aside 20 minutes I know she had in her schedule to throw a salad and baked chicken on the table and save me years of heartache.
Ok. Rant over. Thanks for listening.
