Difficulty with breathing when running

Hello! First time poster, long time lurker!

Since September I've been focused on body recomposition (turning fat into muscle, also generally getting rid of fat) by CICO, higher protein/fat food, and upping exercise. I've always been someone who is pretty inclined to packing on mass (of what kind my diet decides), and normally have pretty short recovery times/low fatigue from muscle-based workouts.

I'd like to have better cardiovascular fitness for functional reasons, and but am running into some major barriers with improving it. I've been lifting weights 3 times a week for ~1h, and going to a track with indoor rowers and running 1k/rowing 1-2k 4 times a week, having done next to no cardio for the 6 months before I started. The limiting factor was muscle soreness for the first week, then my heartrate was peaking uncomfortably hard at the end of 1k for the second week. After pushing through those, for a solid month and a half I've been unable to push past running 1 km into doing 2k or 3k continuously because I am gasping for breath after 100m and collapsing from how hard I'm breathing at 1k. I'm being consistent with it, but am having trouble getting past that (imo low) distance threshold for continuous running. Does anyone have experience with this kind of hard plateau starting running? I've never had asthma, but I did have pneumonia a year ago and bronchitis in August.

TL;DR: Running is hard, halp
