Well today is officially my 365th day of logging into MFP. I tried for so long to lose weight.

The moment it finally clicked that I actually just need to log in every day and just log my calories no matter what was actually in late December of last year. I was in Cincinnati and decided to go to Blue Ash Chili. There they have a food challenge called the No Freaking Way where if you can eat 8 pounds of their spaghetti chili that has a bunch of cheese and jalapeño poppers on top, you get a free shirt. I was able to make it through about 7lbs of that before having to give up. That was the moment when I really knew I had a problem.

But that wasn’t even me at my worst. I was at my worst right after college when I was weighing 230 pounds at 6’1. I had abandoned all good ideas of nutrition or fitness. I wasn’t running, one of my favorite dinners was something called a Lizzy Burger which is a burger with a ton of fries on it and then I would add extra mayo. I just ate out a lot.

I got some idea of a diet over that summer where I did juicing for around a month, raw foods for a couple weeks after that, and then keto for another month or so. Only ended up losing 12 or so pounds and it just wasn’t good. I then stuck with CICO and found much more success, because you know, it’s science and actually healthy.

The closest I had really ever come before my moment to being fit was that I did Couch to 5k my junior year of college. I basically stopped after I was finally able to do a 5k though. On occasion I would run but not much. It was fun though, I just didn’t know when.

So to take you back to that moment that I was able to eat 7 pounds of spaghetti chili, I decided to pick up running again as well. Just a couple 5ks or 3ks a week for a while. Eventually I was able to start doing the occasional 10k.

Then a few months ago, I set out on the Hal Higdon Novice 1 Half Marathon plan and trained for 15 weeks. Then the Saturday before last I was able to run a half marathon in 2 hours and 30 minutes of straight running. I’ve gotta tell you, the moment I saw the finish line and heard the cheering will be one of most treasured memories.

It’s been an incredible journey and I really hope someone is able to gain some help or insight from it.

I’m now been learning to maintain at 167 for the past month or two which is its own thing. But it’s fun and I’ll figure it out eventually.
